About Jessica

Leadership is personal for me. My most inspiring leaders trusted me to make decisions related to my work, asked questions, and treated me with empathy and humanity. It took a few not-so-inspiring managers for me to recognize just how impactful leaders’ influence is on the workplace. Because of these experiences (and well, my intense curiosity), I wanted to better understand the connection between a leaders’ actions, the workplace culture they create, and the effects that culture has on a team’s ability to thrive. 

 

My work preparing immigrants and refugees to enter the American Workforce also opened my eyes to the inefficiencies, dangers, and challenges frontline employees face in everyday work. I saw former doctors become hospital janitorial staff and former pilots work on the tarmac loading luggage. Because they were "outsiders" working as "unskilled labor," their expertise was overlooked or dismissed. I began to wonder what our work world would look like if we included diverse perspectives and experience - we might just be surprised at the wealth of knowledge and ideas we find! 

 

Discovering the operating philosophy of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) felt like finding a missing piece to my puzzle. HOP enables organizations to harness the collective expertise of all members, thus driving safety, performance, engagement, and reliability. In a HOP environment, innovation abounds, learning becomes intrinsic, and continuous improvement is the norm. Employees are engaged, and the business remains adaptable and resilient in a dynamic market landscape. It's really a win-win. 

 

I'm excited to bring these elements together to drive workplace culture transformation through leadership development. Leaders play a vital role in creating conditions for success, and a leader's mindset and behaviors create a ripple effect within their teams and organization as a whole. I want to help build leadership capabilities and coach leaders as they navigate the complexities of creating a HOP culture.

Point Break Learning Solutions

Every name has a story. 

The name Point Break Learning Solutions is rooted in my deep connection to the ocean and its transformative power – a source of inspiration that resonates deeply with both my soul and my work. Just as the ocean's unseen seafloor, weather patterns, and shoreline shape the trajectory of waves, organizational dynamics profoundly influence outcomes. By understanding and harmonizing with these forces, we can leverage them to our advantage. Much like skilled surfers learning to read and catch waves with practice, my approach emphasizes learning from performance to navigate the inevitable ups and downs of organizational challenges. Similar to the consistent, reliable waves found at point breaks, effective leadership acts as a catalyst for change that cascades throughout the organization.
